Letting the glass fog up 0%

Hand-blown in Hackney  ·  Sealed since 2011

A whole climate under glass.

Water it once, in 2031.

Every Bell & Moss cloche is blown by hand, sealed over a living world and left to make its own weather. The moss breathes, the glass fogs, and it rains on the inside. You mostly just watch.

Three climates

Pick the weather you’d like to live beside.

Moss Forest

Leucobryum · Adiantum · Ulmus parvifolia

A Kyoto moss garden in miniature: cushion moss, maidenhair fern, a path of river quartz and an eleven-year-old Chinese elm that has never been outdoors. Fogged by breakfast, clear by noon.

High Desert

Echeveria · Haworthia · Mammillaria

The one exception to our rule. Rosettes and a flowering pincushion cactus on Arizona sand and sandstone, under a vented bell that only fogs on cold mornings. It likes a sunny sill.

Cloud Tropic

Fittonia · Nephrolepis · lava rock

Pink-veined fittonia and button fern around a pool, fed by a very small waterfall and a pump the size of a thimble. The glass rarely clears. It rains inside at about six every evening.

Inside the glass

Five layers, one small water cycle.

Nothing in a sealed terrarium is decoration. Every layer has a job, and between them they turn a single glass of water into a decade of weather.

Care

Light: bright, indirect. Water: never.

07:00The soil warms and the glass fogs over.
  • Somewhere bright

A north or east window is perfect. Summer sun turns a cloche into a greenhouse, so keep it a metre back.

  • Leave the bell on

Condensation is the point, not a problem. If the glass stays fogged all day, lift it for an hour, once.

  • Trim in spring

Moss is a lawn. Brass scissors come with every cloche, and so does a reminder, every March.

  • Call us in 2031

Every bell is guaranteed for ten years. If yours ever needs water, we’ll come round and give it some.
